Pysanky Egg Class

Learn to paint beautiful Ukrainian Easter Eggs.

  • 55 US dollars
  • Two Dachshund Farm

Service Description

Sunday, March 12 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm You've seen these beautiful eggs; now you can learn to paint your own. Learn about this Ukrainian tradition and perhaps start a new Easter tradition for your own family. A pysanka is a colorful Easter egg decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a batik or wax-resist method. Designs are not painted onto the egg but rather "written" or inscribed with a stylus on a beeswax-covered egg dipped into dye. You will decorate an egg during this workshop and take home a kit and instructions for decorating more eggs. This is a fun, relaxing, and meditative craft. Workshop participants learn about the tradition of pysanky and are led through the egg waxing and dyeing processes, emphasizing proper technique and encouraging individualized, creative designs. No experience is necessary. Writing tools, wax, dyes, & containers are included in the class fee. An additional supply list will be provided. The workshop is limited to 12 participants ages 13 and older. If you attended this workshop last year, you are welcome to join us for an advanced session with your kit from last year. Choose that option at checkout.
